Book Name- “The Brahmin” by Ravi Shankar Etteth
SPOILER ALERT (though I don’t think so there are any but still as it’s a thriller so a mandatory reminder)
Do you fall in love with the character of your book? I do and I always did. Though not every book has strong character and not every book has smart character.
Oh the Brahmin the Spymaster of the great king Ashoka from Mauryan Empire. Oh the nameless you are were simply outstanding in this book. I am not ready to believe you are a fictitious character in a Historical Novel. You must have existed if not the Brahmin but by some other name.
Your loyalty towards your king and queen, your compassion towards your team of spies, your enmity towards the enemies of Magadha Kingdom, your curiosity for the Buddhist monks. I loved it all making you a perfect character.
👉 The book is set in Mauryan Empire and to the pre Kalinga war. It’s all about enemies, spies. The story start with a murder and end with something much more bigger
👉 The Brahmin is the Spymaster and one of the most trusted person of King Ashoka unfold the truth along with his Spy Hao and a Greek Soldier (cum spy)
👉 The story is set in Pataliputra and move to Ujjain
👉 Oh the delicious description of mouth watering food many times it feels the food is just in front of us. And also the description of Infrastructure like road, forts, gardens etc is so picturesque it feels writer has just made a vision and we all can see that
👉 Queen Asandhimitra Character is even more stronger than the King Ashoka. She is totally spectacular in her wisdom
👉 The book is a well researched book and show very well the Greek influence on Magadha Kingdom
I really loved this book may be I read a thriller after long time generally thriller is not my genre but more than that I love anything related to History
👎 The ending was though little disappointing especially The Brahmin character. May be the suspense was not so suspense by the time we reached the end and by the time story totally unfold itself we find there are other strong character too.
O ” The Brahmin” You will stay in my mind and my heart a little long till I find someone else. You were magical reading about you was magical. May be other will not agree with me. But I loved you.
