An interesting question. Probably depends on what the hobbies are. But I wonder too whether this might vary across different national/international cultures.
Putting down your hobbies/interests gives interviewers something as an opener to conversation and to relax the candidate; but at the same time you don’t want to put down something that could go against you, such as ‘I love wild parties and getting drunk at the weekend ‘.
I think it also then links to the question about whether prospective employers should do social media searches of their candidates
I personally prefer to see hobby in candidate’s resume..may be because I am myself a hobby/interests enthusiast. Especially in freshers who don’t have any work experience this helps alot to know about them. This has helped me in campus placement time too. But with Experienced candidates there are so much to discuss that we hardly go on hobby. Even I do believe hobby/interests do differ culture wise.
I was meaning how you present a resume/cv … what should be included … varies across different cultures. But yes, hobbies may vary too
